Why should I hire an ISA Certified Arborist?

Why is topping bad?

Why is tree work so expensive?

Proper tree work is a highly skilled and dangerous trade that requires lots of training and expertise. The rates for tree care are     comparable to other skilled trades such as carpentry, plumbing,     electrical, and mechanics. Tree work is a gear intensive trade that     requires expensive power equipment to be well maintained.                 And lastly: tree work is one of the most expensive businesses to         insure. We insist on providing the highest quality products and         services at a fair price.

Why are there such large differences in the estimates that I'm getting? Should I just go with the least expensive?

Careful here. If you are getting estimates and a couple stick way out as really low compared to the others, beware. Some companies operate without the required licensure and insurance. They can afford to do much more for much less. You are not protected from accidents or property damage in these cases. It could end up costing a lot more in the long run. Also, proper pruning takes longer than poor butcher pruning. Make sure that all your estimates come from reputable trained arborists. If you choose the lowest bid without checking it out, you may come home to an ugly, poorly pruned tree that could take decades to recover. Then you might end up hiring another arborist to fix the damage.
